DESCRIPTION:Charbel Haber est un musicien\, interprète\, artiste plasticien et compositeur libanais originaire de Beyrouth.\n\nSon parcours l’a amené à collaborer avec des artistes issus d’un large éventail de disciplines – musique\, cinéma\, art vidéo\, arts plastiques\, théâtre – tant au Liban qu’à l’étranger. \n  \n« May a soft sun bless your sky while you wait for the inevitable »par Charbel Haber\n« En déambulant dans les rues de Paris\, Charbel Haber a senti que la phrase « Qu’un soleil doux bénisse ton ciel tandis que tu attends l’inévitable » illuminait les scènes idylliques qui l’entouraient. Les mélodies rayonnantes qu’il avait composées s’infiltraient dans le paysage et rendaient ses couleurs un peu plus vives. Nous étions en 2025 et le musicien\, interprète\, artiste plasticien et compositeur libanais venait tout juste de quitter Beyrouth pour s’installer dans la capitale ; il avait toujours aimé Paris et estimait qu’il était temps de prendre ses distances avec la guerre qui l’entourait. Il ne pouvait pas faire abstraction des horreurs du monde\, mais sa musique pouvait l’aider à trouver un peu de douceur. \n« May a soft sun bless your sky while you wait for the inevitable » est né de ce moment\, à la fois de l’amour de Haber pour Paris et de son désir de trouver de la douceur malgré les horreurs du monde. La détermination et la résilience sont la force qui anime ces mélodies tendres\, portant chaque murmure ondulant. Sous les nappes minimalistes de guitare se cache une citation de Rilke : « Laisse tout t’arriver : la beauté et la terreur. Continue simplement d’avancer. Aucun sentiment n’est définitif. » \nC’était un nouveau défi que de réaliser un album aussi ancré dans Paris. Une grande partie du travail solo de Haber puise ses racines dans la vie à Beyrouth\, et il est une figure centrale des scènes expérimentale et post-punk libanaises. On peut découvrir son travail au sein de groupes tels que Scrambled Eggs et The Bunny Tylers\, ainsi que dans des films et des œuvres d’art visuel ; en tant que soliste\, il explore la guitare ambient et distordue comme moyen de narration\, créant une musique qui se situe quelque part entre Glenn Branca et Alice Coltrane\, mêlant la rudesse du no wave de Branca à l’approche spirituelle de Coltrane. *May a Soft Sun* est un album qu’il souhaitait réaliser depuis de nombreuses années\, porté par des mélodies fluides\, et qui a pris vie à Paris\, comme si son univers était un théâtre vivant. \nHaber a conçu cet album avec son setup habituel : une guitare\, des pédales de boucle et un petit système modulaire\, autant d’outils qu’il utilise régulièrement pour créer un son lo-fi et expansif. Mais bien qu’il ne travaille qu’avec quelques instruments\, la musique de *May a Soft Sun* est tentaculaire et en constante évolution. Des morceaux comme le titre d’ouverture « This show starts in the future » comportent tant de couches entrelacées qu’ils donnent l’impression d’avoir une ampleur orchestrale. Ici\, plusieurs mélodies vaporeuses tourbillonnent les unes autour des autres et se fondent lentement ; par moments\, la guitare transperce ces nuages et les propulse en avant comme le vent. Ailleurs\, Haber adopte un rythme plus soutenu\, comme sur « I stutter when I speak of life and death »\, qui se déploie à travers une série de phrases ondulantes ; celles-ci s’entremêlent avec une ferveur anxieuse avant de se disperser progressivement en volutes. Et avec le morceau de clôture « This show ends in the past »\, Haber rassemble toutes ces textures disparates en un ensemble cinématographique\, tissant une trame mêlant mélancolie et espoir à partir de nombreux fils différents. \nUne grande partie de *May a soft sun* met en avant ces textures enroulées et vaporeuses ainsi que ces phrases luxuriantes\, créant une chaleur semblable à celle d’un cocon. C’est apaisant\, mais cela embrasse également la mélancolie d’être en vie. L’écouter\, c’est comme entreprendre un voyage vers l’acceptation\, un voyage qui embrasse la dureté de l’existence et trouve une certaine douceur au milieu des moments d’obscurité. Dans ces mélodies se cachent des couches de chagrin\, de deuil et d’espoir\, toutes entrelacées en une toile enchevêtrée et magnifique. » \n– VANESSA AGUE\, février 2026 \n« Charbel Haber weaves time.
