CNPY016 « Shigo Disgo » sees Aroop Roy & Opolopo united on another Canopy outing, this time coming together for a head to head seeing them each serve up club focused re-interpretations of two Afro boogie cuts :
Chicco – Shigomase, a 1990 synth house bomb from South Africa and Spirit Konekson – Disco Party, a funky piece of 70s Nigerian disco.
First up Aroop Roy takes on Chicco’s proto house beast « Shigomase », dialling up the low end throb factor before bringing it to a synthed out, euphoric crescendo.
Following up this Aroop takes his scalpel & bass guitar and chops & flips the Moog led Afro-disco funk attitude of « Disco Party » into a restless boogie bomb that never stops elevating.
On the alternate side Opolopo channels extra sleaze into Shigomase, adding dirty dancefloor gristle and a raunchy back end to take the vibe straight to the basement.
Rounding out proceedings Opolopo brings « Disco Party » into the present day, adding muscular drums and crunchy synth solos while maintaining the original’s loose limbed rare groove
