A descendant of the Hausa (a people from the Sahel) born in Riyadh in 1947, Ettab was a celebrated singer, actress and activist — and perhaps the only female artist of Saudi origin of her time to claim an international career.This album, produced in Lebanon in 1992 by brothers Mahmoud and Ahmed Moussa for the label Relax-In, is a perfect introduction to her work. Produit au Liban en 1992 par les frères Mahmoud et Ahmed Moussa sous la marque Relax-In, cet album est une parfaite introduction à son œuvre. Résolument moderne dans ses arrangements pop d’une finesse digne de Curtis Mayfield, il porte la musique classique orientale vers de nouveaux horizons. La voix d’Ettab, d’une indéniable beauté, se caractérise par son accent originel, qu’elle ne masquera pas malgré son exil en Égypte en 1980.

Après une quinzaine d’albums et quelques apparitions au cinéma, Ettab consacre son temps à défendre les droits des femmes dans le milieu musical jusqu’à sa disparition en 2007 au Caire. Elle est maintenant devenue une icône féminine de premier ordre dans le monde arabe et en particulier en Arabie Saoudite, son pays natal.
